In its institutional part, the aim of teaching is to provide students with basic knowledge of the evolution of the sciences of the mind and the brain, with particular reference to learning, emotional, motivational and decision-making processes and self-control. The historical perspective will focus on the relations between psychological sciences and neuroscience and their transformation over time, from the scientific revolution to contemporary age.

In the monographic part, this year the course will deal with the analysis of dependencies from a historical/critical perspective.
The aim of the course is to provide students with a general understanding of the history of the main theories and psychological and neurobiological explanations of addictions, a set of pathological conditions now conceptualized as cognitive disorders, pathological learning. The aim of the course is for participants to acquire basic knowledge of cognitive processes emotive and motivational that are at the center of addictions and understand the conceptual transitions that have characterized the evolution of this field of study and of the way in which these transformations have changed over time the public perception of addictions and the paths of treatment and prevention.

At the end of the course, the student will be able to discuss critically and consciously the main themes and problems of the models of explanation of addictions, to place the different explanation systems in a historical perspective, recognize their strengths and weaknesses. At the same time the partecipants will be able to formulate coherent analysis of contemporary addiction theories and recognize their historical and conceptual roots.
