Programme

Who wins the election? Why certain electoral systems are more or less exposed to the influence of lobbies? How does a lobby operate, and how it is formed? Why is there a political budget and legislative cycle determined by the timing of the elections? Which is the role of a Constitutional Court in a democratic system? Why is it so hard to privatise public enterprises, why delegating important political and economic tasks to independent authorities, not subject to electoral control? How does a dictatorial regime function, and how should we deal with them? These are just some of the questions to which public choice and economics of instituions provide answers.

Type of delivery of the course

The seminar consists in a series of lectures whose timing and topics will be specified in a syllabus distributed to the students. Courses will be held either by prof. Padovano and/or by external experts in the field.
