International Relations

Since its foundation, Roma Tre has attached great importance to international cooperation. It has been an active participant in the European Union exchange programmes as well as in ministerial programmes, and has signed agreements with other institutions.
One of the main objectives of Roma Tre has been the internationalisation process in the University with the aim of rendering its teaching system transparent and easily accessible to foreign students, and therefore on a par with universities in the most advanced democratic nations.
Roma Tre is an official member of the UNICA Network (Universities of the European Capital Cities).
In 1993/1994 40 Roma Tre students took part in the Erasmus programme; in 2005/2006 this number had grown to about 490 students attending courses in 218 partner universities, while 500 foreign students came to study at Roma Tre. In the academic year 2002/2003, Roma Tre was awarded the Erasmus University Charter (EUC), thus obtaining the right to participate in the Erasmus Programme. Besides the exchange programmes, Roma Tre also takes part in EU programmes such as Socrates, Tempus, Alfa, Leonardo and EU-Australia, the internationalizsation programme promoted by the Ministry for Education, Universities and Research, and bilateral programmes with Spain, France, Germany and the United Kingdom. Moreover, the University offers 6 Jean Monnet European Modules in Economics, Law and Political Sciences, as well as a Jean Monnet chair and centre of excellence in Political Sciences.
Since the academic year 2005/2006 it has participated in the Marco Polo programme organised by the Italian University Rectors' Conference (CRUI), and has opened its doors to Chinese students taking various degree courses.
The University has signed international cooperation agreements with universities and institutions in different parts of the world with the aim of promoting and encouraging joint teaching, research and training activities through student and teacher exchanges.
To date Roma Tre has welcomed students from South America (Argentina, Brazil, Chile, Colombia and Venezuela), the Mediterranean basin (Tunisia and Syria) and the Far East (China and Malaysia), and encourages its students to go to these countries.
Furthermore, since the academic year 2001/2002, it has provided incentives for student mobility programmes abroad and in Italy through the allocation of :

  • scholarships for students who wish to attend summer schools in universities or research institutes
  • or carry out research for their thesis.

The person responsible for the student mobility programmes within the framework of the various EU programmes (Erasmus, Leonardo, Lifelong Learning etc.) is a course coordinator (Prof. Roberto Pujia), while the scientific and teaching aspects are entrusted to professors acting as course coordinators in each individual course of study.
The course coordinators are available to advise students on the most suitable European universities for their course of study, to define their learning agreement, to discuss the length of their study period abroad and to validate studies carried out in foreign universities. The selection of students for the allocation of study periods abroad is normally carried out through competitive exams. Notification of exam dates are displayed in the faculties and posted on the University website.
The Department for International Relations and the Erasmus office deal with the organisation and administration of the mobility programmes and receive students on the following days:

  • Erasmus and other mobility programmes: Monday 10 a.m.-1 p.m. Thursday 2 p.m. - 4.30 p.m.
  • Leonardo da Vinci: Monday 10 a.m. - 12 p.m. Thursday 3 p.m. - 4.30 p.m.
