Type of delivery of the course

Two main aspect will be investigated during the design development: • analysys and verify the building features like, thermal aspects, air and water tightness, sun protection, …. • detail design. The main part of the building will be developed till the working drawings scale. BIM as a work tool. We use a BIM tool to control the project and also to evaluate it. BIM technology allow the integration of structural, construction an mechanics in the same file.

Attendance

Attendance is required for at least 75% of the lessons

Type of evaluation

oral presentation and project review and discussion

Programme

The aim of the Building Technology Module is to provide all the appropriate tools for students to manage design relations between materials, building elements, working techniques, requirements and regulations involved since the concept design. All that fully aware of the strong link between typological-stylish features and technological-architectural ones of the building conceived as a whole of interrelated and organized parts, according to a systemic and performance design approach.
To this end, the program is divided into three parts:
1_in the first part, and with reference to examples of contemporary architecture, the main technological solutions are examined with particular attention to structural elements (foundations, vertical and horizontal structures, floors) and envelope;
2 in the second part, manufacturers of building components will be asked to illustrate to the students the technical characteristics useful for the elaboration of the design project;
3_the third part will be dedicated to design project reviews.

Type of delivery of the course

The Building Technology Module deals with in-depth design of the main elements of a building (structure, opaque and transparent, horizontal and vertical envelope) through the study of case studies, the comparison and evaluation of alternative technological solutions, the representation in detail of the most significant elements of the project. To this aim the Module is organized in: lessons (knowledge and understanding); classroom exercises, related to the lesson (practical application). For remote didactics, the Laboratory makes use of: - ZoomPRO platform for teaching with the direct involvement of students; - GoogleDrive (https://drive.google.com/drive/folders/1buRFEzBkUlEZuTYKTK54lpHfjohxKLxV) as a repository for teaching materials; - Moodle (https://architettura.el.uniroma3.it/course/view.php?id=98) and e-mail platform as student contact management environments.

Attendance

The presence will be recorded in the classroom by signing or elaborating the assignment due linked to the lesson of the day.

Type of evaluation

The learning assessment takes place through in itinere evaluations, related to the exercises carried out in the classroom, and to the design elaborations concerning the design subject of the year. The evaluation during the examination will consider the assessments in progress and will take place with a discussion on the presented design elaborations and on the theoretical contents of the laboratory. Documents required for the Technology Module: 1:50 cross section, axonometric cross-section with details of the components and materials used. The exam will take the form of an oral interview held remotely on the platform chosen by the professor in charge of the 2M Architectural Design Laboratory.
