Programme

"Semantics and lexicology of the German language"

The students are introduced into the German semantics and German lexicology, especially based on a contrastive perspective Italian-German. The contrastive approach helps to improve reflecting on language and promotes, in this way, the acquisition of language awareness. In addition to the contrastive approach, linguistic phenomena are linked to culture and traditions of German speakers, especially to improve their skills in linguistic and cultural mediation.
The course focuses on the following issues: simple words vs. compounds, semantic relations, semantic fields, false friends, polysemy, word formation, phraseology, the German language in contact with other languages, language of the young generation, words in their cultural context.
All the phenomena are also presented in various dictionaries and encyclopaedias (print and online), especially for the acquisition of new vocabulary.
