The course, through the reading of classical texts, aims to provide students with the knowledge and critical understanding of the historical, epistemological and methodological foundations of historical-philosophical research. By indicating from time to time the difficulties presented by the texts and the different possible interpretative solutions, it also aims to stimulate the student's critical reflection and autonomy of judgement.
With the study of History of Philosophy the student will be able to achieve the following educational objectives.
In terms of knowledge and comprehension:
- understand the historical, epistemological and methodological foundations of historical-philosophical research;
- to know the classics of the history of philosophical thought.
In terms of ability to apply knowledge and understanding:
- analyze the difficulties presented by the texts and propose different interpretative solutions;

The course intends to offer a path of reading and reflection on the texts of some great philosophers of the past and present, who have focused on the complexity of our emotional life and the generation of feelings and virtues. Above all, it will be shown how passions have been interpreted as a significant and complex moment in the relationship between soul and body.

in the first module (36h), some significant figures of ancient, medieval and modern thought will be analyzed.
In the second module (18h) some contemporary readings of emotion will be presented and we will reflect on the way in which our contemporary culture exalts the emotional dimension in our personal lives.

Type of delivery of the course
Dealing with the first part (36 hours), the course will be carried out mainly through the frontal lecture. in the second part (18 hours), in addition to the frontal lecture, we will use the method of discussion, case studies, and we will use videos. In the case of an extension of the health emergency from COVID-19, all the provisions that regulate the methods of carrying out the teaching activities and student assessment will be implemented. In particular, the following methods will apply: Distance lessons provided through the "Teams" platform; Use of the formonline platform for uploading and communicating additional support material.Attendance
Given the specificity of the topics and some difficulties regarding some more technical aspects, attendance is strongly recommended.Type of evaluation
