21810310 - SEMINAR - THE ITALIAN REPUBLIC ON THE SCREEN: POLITICAL PARTIES IN ITALIAN CINEMA

The seminar aims at retracing how cinema managed to portray and describe the Italian society's attitude towards political parties. Cinema, in fact, represents an important indicator of the political, social and cultural evolution of the country, it being an artistic piece or a commercial product.

Programme

The seminar aims to reconstruct the main aspects of the relationship between cinema and history in the narration of Italian history from the end of the Second World War to today. Choosing four periods of post-World War II Italian history (reconstruction, economic boom, the Seventies and the end of the First Republic), the most significant films will be analyzed to understand the type of representation that political parties have received from directors and screenwriters.
