Course Name: Ancient Greek Literature LM I (= Master’s Degree) (6 CFU)

Students of this course will acquire advanced knowledge on Greek literature, improving their competence. Reading and translating a text (or a selection of texts) in original language, they will acquire exegetical competence, in order to examine Greek literature in many respects, including linguistic, historical, philological, performative, and dramaturgic issues. This course also includes workshops in order to provide students with a very diversified philological competence, making them able to read complex Greek texts, dealing with textual reconstruction and philological problems

Programme

The Epigramm in hellenistic age. The Callimachus and Theocritus Books’ Epigramm

Reading the Callimachus and Theocritus’ Epigramms, the Students will be introduced to the study of this Literary Hellenistic genre and to the constitution of a topic book Epigramm. The students could also improve their knowledge of the Greek Metric, especially of Greek esameter.

EXAMINATION TYPE (oral) The type of examination is oral and evaluates: 1) the mastery of the subject 2) the ability in translating ancient Greek texts, also fragmentary 3) the critical capacities and the skills in identifying and formulating philological and textual problems
