Performance art in Rome: time, places and presences of performance in Rome
The course aims to investigate the history of performance art in Rome in the period from the late 1960s through the 1970s, through the analysis of public and private spaces, the responses of artists to an ever-changing and changing situation, and critical reactions to new forms of expression. The usual effervescence of Fabio Sargentini’s L’Attico gallery and the Incontri Internazionali d’Arte association is enriched and supported by a myriad of permanent or ephemeral initiatives, linked to exhibition events or alternatives to the art system, often traversed by recurring presences.
The historical investigation of performance evidently poses problems of sources and method that will be the focus of a specific in-depth discussion.
