The course in the History of Conflict and Cultural Diplomacy aims to explore the role of culture in the context of international relations, especially in situations of crisis, tension and war. The main aim is to provide students with the analytical tools they need to understand the different characteristics assumed by war, based both on the evolution of military policy and conflict management, and on the different forms of propaganda, image promotion abroad, public and cultural diplomacy. The focus will therefore be on the relationship between hard power and soft power from the 19th century to the present day. Part of the course will be devoted to a specific case study that next year will focus on Italy between the two world wars.
