Admission to open-access degree programs of the Department of Industrial, Electronic and Mechanical Engineering is also granted to those who have taken the CISIA test (TOLC-I) starting from February 1, 2024.
B. Exam Format, Content, Outcome Content
Format of the Exam
The TOLC-I test consists of a series of multiple-choice questions, divided into several thematic sections submitted in sequence. Each section must be completed within a predetermined time which varies for each section.
The test administered at national level consists of 50 questions to be completed within a total of 110 minutes, divided into the following areas:
- Mathematics: 20 questions in 50 minutes
- Logic: 10 questions in 20 minutes
- Science: 10 questions in 20 minutes
- Verbal comprehension: 10 questions in 20 minutes
At the end of the TOLC-I, there is a section of 30 questions for the English Language Knowledge Test lasting 15 minutes, which does not count towards the final score but replaces the language placement test referred to in Article 7 of the Admission Notice (Italian version).
The required knowledge level corresponds to the official Italian curriculum of High School (Scientific High School). Further information and examples of tests taken in previous academic years can be found on the website Link identifier #identifier__107191-10www.cisiaonline.it
The tests take place in multiple sessions; the date and time will be indicated when booking the TOLC-I on the CISIA portal Link identifier #identifier__55157-11www.cisiaonline.it

- Wrong answer: -0.25
- No answer or cancelled answer: 0
Additional Learning Requirements (OFA)
Failure to take the test by the dates indicated on the CISIA website (by November 23, 2025) will be considered a failing result and will automatically lead to the assignment of OFA.To identify any OFA, the TOLC-I test result will be considered insufficient if the score is less than 18/50.
A failing test result will lead to the assignment of OFA, for the recovery of which individual or group activities supervised by a tutor will be organized as remedial courses. Remedial courses will be held in September 2025.
The format and the calendar of the remedial courses will be published on the website: Link identifier #identifier__16958-13Additional Learning Requirements - Department of Industrial, Electronic an Mechanical Engineering (Italian version).
Students who do not participate in individual or group remedial activities will have the opportunity to fulfill the OFA (Additional Educational Obligations) through one of the following alternative methods:
- The OFA is considered fulfilled by attendance (certified through the collection of participants' signatures) the "Mathematical Refresher Course" which will take place in September;
- The OFA is considered fulfilled if the student, by the final exam session of the academic year of enrollment (September), successfully passes one of the following courses
(Mechanical Engineering curriculum):
- Mathematical Analysis I
- Geometry
- Physics I
(Marine Technologies curriculum):
- Mathematical Analysis I
- Elements of Computer Science and Linear Algebra
- Physics
Failure to fulfill the OFA by the exam session of September of the academic year of enrollment will lead to the impossibility to register for/take exams scheduled for the second year of the degree program.
The competent administrative offices will verify compliance with this requirement and implement the corresponding decisions of the Department Council after the final deadline (September 2026).
