Commitment of Student Associations in the Field of Environmental Sustainability

Introduction

Student associations play an important role in university life and contribute to improving the academic community by placing environmental sustainability at the center of their commitment through events, motions, and participation in university governance offices.

Some Activities

  • Studenti alla Terza: the association organized several environmental events, including a meeting on decarbonization and renewable energy in collaboration with WWF. It promoted motions in student governing bodies, leading to initiatives such as the Rome Wood, bicycle racks, and recycling containers. It also distributed sustainable gadgets to students, such as portable ashtrays.
  • Ricomincio dagli Studenti: the association led the Environment Commission of the Student Council, presenting several motions, including one against food waste, later brought to the academic level by its Senator.
  • Participation in RUS: the associations Controvento and Studenti alla Terza have representatives in the University Network for Sustainability (RUS), contributing to shared strategies to promote sustainability.
  • Environment Commission of the Student Council: through their representatives, the associations promote awareness, good practices, and projects to make the University increasingly attentive to environmental issues.

Participation in the Network of Universities for Sustainability (RUS)

The commitment of the student associations also extends to active participation in national networks and collaborations. Within this context, the associations “Controvento” and “Studente alla Terza” each have a representative within the RUS (University Network for Sustainability), thus contributing to the development of shared strategies among different universities to promote environmental sustainability.

Commitment in the Environment Commission of the Student Council

The various associations, through their representatives in the Environment Commission of the Student Council, work actively to integrate sustainability issues within the different departments of the University. This commitment results into awareness initiatives, the promotion of good practices and projects aimed at making the University increasingly sustainable and attentive to environmental issues.

Conclusions

The action of student associations in environmental sustainability demonstrates a strong sense of responsibility and a concrete commitment to improving the university ecosystem. Through events, motions, participation in national networks and collaboration with the Environment Commission, the associations significantly contribute to spreading a culture of sustainability and to implementing concrete interventions that make the University a virtuous model of environmental management.
