B. Exam Format, content, and Outcome
Format of the Exam
The TOLC-I test consists of a series of multiple-choice questions, divided into several thematic sections submitted in sequence. Each section must be completed within a predetermined time which varies for each section.
The test administered at national level consists of 50 questions to be completed within a total of 110 minutes, divided into the following areas:
- Mathematics: 20 questions in 50 minutes
- Logic: 10 questions in 20 minutes
- Science: 10 questions in 20 minutes
- Verbal comprehension: 10 questions in 20 minutes
At the end of the TOLC-I, there is a section of 30 questions for the English Language Knowledge Test lasting 15 minutes, which does not count towards the final score but replaces the language placement test referred to in Article 7 of the Admission Notice (Italian version).
The required knowledge level corresponds to the official Italian curriculum of High School (Scientific High School). Further information and examples of tests taken in previous academic years can be found on the website Link identifier #identifier__81352-11www.cisiaonline.it
The tests take place in multiple sessions; the date and time will be indicated when booking the TOLC-I on the CISIA portal Link identifier #identifier__184886-12www.cisiaonline.it
Rome Tre University will host the TOLC-I test on some dates. The full test schedule is published at the link: Link identifier #identifier__31773-13Calendari delle prove TOLC (testcisia.it)
Exam Outcome
Failure to take the test on the dates indicated on the CISIA website will be considered a failing result and will automatically lead to the assignment of Additional Educational Obligations (OFA) required by each degree program, as specified below.
The test result, excluding the English Language section, is determined by assigning the following scores:
- Correct answer: +1
- Wrong answer: -0.25
- No answer or cancelled answer: 0
Additional Learning Requirements (OFA)
Failure to take the test by the dates indicated on the CISIA website (by November 23, 2025) will be considered a failing result and will automatically lead to the assignment of OFA required by the individual degree programs, as indicated below.
To identify any OFA, the TOLC-I test result will be considered insufficient if the score is less than 18/50.
A failing test result will lead to the assignment of OFA, for the recovery of which individual or group activities will be organized in the form of tutoring and/or remedial courses, both in person and through the MOOC “Thinking of Studying Engineering.”
The OFA will be considered fulfilled upon passing one of the following first-year exams:
Mathematical Analysis I, Physics I, Geometry, as stated in the study regulations of the degree programs in Civil Engineering, Computer Science, and Aeronautical Technologies:
The fulfillment of OFA is mandatory and is a prerequisite for taking the exams of subsequent years; therefore, the academic career of students enrolled in the second year will be blocked until the OFA are recovered.
