MathWorks Campus

The University has signed a Total Academic Headcount (TAH) campus contract for the use of MATLAB, Simulink, and 48 additional toolboxes, for teaching activities and non-commercial research by students, faculty, and university staff belonging to the following Departments:

  • Architecture
  • Economics
  • Business Economics
  • Philosophy, Communication and Performing Arts
  • Engineering
  • Industrial, Electronic and Mechanical Engineering
  • Mathematics and Physics
  • Education Sciences
  • Other Departments interested in activating the contract may contact the Information Systems Area

Thanks to the campus agreement, Departments no longer need to purchase their own licenses if they are already included in the contract.

The current agreement is valid until 28 February 2026.

Instructions for updating to the 2025 version

For users who installed and activated the software before March 2025, it may be necessary to manually renew the license to obtain the new 2026 expiration date.

To proceed:

  1. Open MATLAB
  2. Go to the Help menu and select Licensing
  3. Click Activate software and choose Activate using Internet
  4. After reactivation, restart MATLAB

Available services

The campus contract provides the following services:

  • Software availability for all Departments’ staff listed above and for students, for research and teaching purposes.
    Software may be installed on office workstations (on campus), departmental labs (network licenses), and personal home computers (off campus).

  • Online training courses: MathWorks offers numerous short and structured online training paths for MATLAB and Simulink, available at Link identifier #identifier__27608-4https://matlabacademy.mathworks.com
  • Link identifier #identifier__153354-5MATLAB Parallel Server: Enables scaling MATLAB programs and Simulink simulations across clusters and cloud environments. Supports batch processing, interactive parallel computing and distributed computing with large matrices.

Technical Support

The contract includes software updates, manuals, technical documentation provided by the vendor, and technical support.

How to install the software

To use the software included in the campus agreement, you must:

  1. Register on the Link identifier #identifier__91814-7MathWorks  website.
    Select “Sign In” at the top right, then Link identifier #identifier__53094-8Create Account.
  2. For staff:
    • Use your institutional email (e.g., mario.rossi@uniroma3.it)
    • Under “How will you use MathWorks software”, select Teaching or Research in school
  3. For students:
    • Use your institutional email (e.g., mar.rossi@stud.uniroma3.it)
    • Under “How will you use MathWorks software”, select Student use
  4. Retrieve the Activation Key (Link identifier #identifier__135987-9from the restricted area accessible with University credentials, same as the Student Portal or Wi-Fi login—note: it is recommended to prepend the domain “studenti” to your username, e.g., studenti\MAR.ROSSI).
  5. Log in to your Link identifier #identifier__164741-10MathWorks account and activate the license by entering the Activation Key.
  6. Download the software and proceed with installation (during installation select the default option Login with a MathWorks account).
