Biomedical Engineering

Bachelor's Degree Programme in Biomedical Engineering (L-8 Information Engineering & L-9 Industrial Engineering) is designed to train professionals with interdisciplinary skills across both information and industrial engineering fields, enabling them to address medical and biological problems using engineering methods. The course integrates foundational training in engineering, life sciences, and the legal and economic aspects relevant to the healthcare sector. This combination ensures graduates can both enter the job market and pursue advanced studies in biomedical engineering or related fields. The curriculum includes a strong base in mathematics, physics, chemistry, biology, and computer science, gradually moving towards more specialised engineering content.

The three-year course is structured as follows: the first year focuses on fundamental scientific knowledge and basic programming and data analysis; the second year provides core training in industrial and information engineering, tailored to biomedical applications; the third year deepens biomedical engineering expertise and introduces legal, economic, and practical laboratory experience. Students can choose between two specialised tracks from the second year: one focused on ICT applications in biomedicine, the other on clinical technologies and processes. Although students initially select the degree class (L-8 or L-9) upon enrolment, they may switch between the two up to the third year without delaying their progress.

Graduates are well-prepared to continue their education in Master’s programmes, particularly in Biomedical Engineering (LM-21), but also in other areas within industrial or information engineering. The degree provides legal recognition and allows graduates to work in hospital settings as medical device managers, in industry as technical or product specialists, or in laboratories in biomedical or pharmaceutical fields. Upon passing the state exam, they may also register as junior professional engineers in the corresponding section of the Professional Engineers’ Register.
