Humanities

Bachelor’s Degree in Humanities is a multidisciplinary degree providing a rigorous foundation in linguistic, philological, literary, classical, medieval, modern, and contemporary studies—especially focused on Italian and ancient languages, alongside comparative analysis of texts and sources. In the first year, a shared curriculum covers Italian linguistics and literature, Latin language and literature, history, and geography. From the second year onward, students choose one of four specialisations—Modern Literature & Italian Linguistics, Contemporary World, Classical Studies, or Civilisations & Religions—allowing deepened exploration of specific disciplines.

Admission is open-access and requires a recognised secondary school diploma. Entry-level assessments focus on literary, historical, and geographical knowledge and serve to identify any educational needs; any additional learning obligations are addressed through support measures like tutoring. The programme emphasises language competence—students must achieve B2 level in at least one EU language (in addition to Italian)—as well as digital literacy. Teaching methods include traditional lectures, seminars, tutorials, internships, and field placements in cultural institutions, with continuous monitoring of learning progress.

International mobility is actively supported through Erasmus+ and bilateral exchange programmes managed by the Department of Humanities. For the academic year2025/26, there are 11 Erasmus grants available to Lettere students—part of a total of 31 for the department—enabling study or internships abroad in Europe and beyond. Graduates are wellpositioned for roles in publishing, cultural mediation, teaching (including Italian as a foreign language), library and archival services, and cultural institutions, and can pursue Master’s degrees in fields like Modern Philology, Historical Sciences, or Information and Editorial Systems .
