Archaeology

The Master’s Degree in Archaeology at Roma Tre University provides advanced training across the main fields of archaeological research related to the Mediterranean and European cultural areas. Spanning a broad historical arc from prehistory to the Middle Ages, the programme offers specialisation options in areas such as classical archaeology, ancient topography, pre- and protohistoric archaeology, Christian and medieval archaeology, and the archaeology of the ancient Near East. Teaching combines theoretical analysis with practical methods for excavation, classification, and heritage conservation.

Students benefit from a mix of classroom learning, fieldwork, seminars, and laboratory activities. The curriculum includes excavation schools, materials documentation, site visits, and independent research, culminating in a substantial dissertation. A recently introduced double degree path—Field Archaeology in Greece: Interdisciplinarity and Cutting-Edge Technologies—in partnership with the University of Thessaly (Greece), provides students with an opportunity to participate in integrated fieldwork and research activities within international teams.

Graduates are prepared for careers in archaeological research, cultural heritage protection, museums, and related public or private institutions. The programme also supports access to doctoral studies in archaeology or cultural heritage. Emphasis is placed on critical thinking and professional competence, with a focus on addressing the complex challenges of archaeological practice in contemporary society.
