Geology and Environmental Protection
The Master’s Degree in Geology and Environmental Protection at Roma Tre University offers advanced training in Earth Sciences with a focus on environmental sustainability and geological risk management. The programme combines theoretical coursework with practical field and laboratory experience, preparing students to assess and manage geological processes, natural resources, and geohazards. Students choose from four specialised tracks: Natural Hazards and Land Management, Energy Transition Geology, Tectonics and Volcanology, and Geophysics of the Earth and Planets.
The curriculum equips students with professional competencies in geological mapping, environmental monitoring, hazard assessment, and resource management. Graduates gain expertise in the exploration of geomaterials, site characterisation, geophysical surveying, and the protection of geological heritage. The course supports the development of critical judgement, interdisciplinary thinking, and technical communication, including proficiency in sector-specific terminology. Training is tailored through optional modules, international mobility, and research internships. A final thesis based on original research completes the programme.
Graduates are qualified for professional roles in environmental consultancy, geological engineering, public administration, and the energy and geoscience sectors. They may also access the Italian professional register of geologists upon successful completion of the licensing exam. The degree provides a pathway to doctoral research in Earth Sciences and related fields. Admission is open to candidates with a relevant undergraduate degree and at least 60 ECTS credits in core scientific subjects, as specified in the academic regulations. Students who meet these criteria are exempt from the entrance interview.
