Languages and Literatures for Teaching and Cultural Professions

The Master’s Degree in Languages and Literatures for Teaching and Cultural Professions at Roma Tre University offers advanced training in the interpretation, translation, and adaptation of literary texts, with a strong emphasis on written and oral communication across cultural and transmedia contexts. The programme develops high-level linguistic and critical skills in one or two foreign languages and literatures, depending on the chosen curriculum. Courses in modern languages and literatures are delivered in the relevant foreign language, ensuring full immersion and professional fluency. The programme also includes theoretical and practical foundations for teaching, including Italian as a second language (L2).

Over two academic years, students engage with a multidisciplinary curriculum structured around five learning areas: Modern Languages and Literatures; Linguistic, Philological and Translational Methodologies; Historical, Artistic and Geographical Studies; Italian Language and Literature; and Interdisciplinary and Elective Subjects. Two main curricula are offered: one focusing on two foreign languages and literatures, and another combining one foreign language with training in Italian L2 teaching. The programme integrates seminars, laboratory activities, internships, and a final thesis, which must demonstrate critical independence and scholarly rigour. Starting from 2025/2026, a new double degree pathway is available in partnership with the Universidad Complutense de Madrid.

Graduates are prepared for careers in advanced translation, language teaching, cultural publishing, literary editing, and the design of educational and cultural projects in both national and international settings. They may work in schools, cultural institutions, NGOs, or international organisations as translators, editors, second-language educators, and cultural communicators. The degree also provides access to doctoral programmes and second-level Master’s courses and may meet eligibility criteria for national teacher training pathways, as determined by current legislation.
