Modern Languages For International Communication

Modern Languages for International Communication

The Master’s Degree in Modern Languages for International Communication at Roma Tre University is a two-year programme designed to develop advanced linguistic and cultural competences in two foreign languages, either both European or one European and one non-European. The course integrates language study with specialist training in intercultural communication, international relations, translation, and foreign language teaching. Students follow a tailored academic path that aligns with their personal and professional objectives, developing strong multilingual expertise in complex international environments.

The curriculum includes two language modules per year (12 ECTS each), taught by native or highly qualified speakers, alongside courses in literature, linguistics, translation, philology, communication, and social sciences. Students also choose from a wide range of elective subjects to deepen their profile in fields such as cultural heritage, language consultancy, education, or international cooperation. By the end of the programme, students are expected to reach C1+ proficiency (C1 for German) in both languages. The programme promotes international mobility through Erasmus and other exchange programmes, and offers access to the Erasmus Mundus Joint Master Degree in Lexicography (EMLex), in which Roma Tre is a partner university.

Graduates are equipped for careers in language consultancy, cultural diplomacy, multilingual publishing, translation, interpreting, education, and communication roles in international organisations, public institutions, NGOs, and cultural bodies. The programme also provides a foundation for doctoral studies and teacher training, depending on national regulations. The final assessment consists of the defence of an original research thesis, supervised by academic staff and written in one of the programme’s disciplinary areas. Admission is subject to evaluation of previous studies and language proficiency as outlined in the official course regulations.
