Languages and Literatures for Intercultural Communication

Bachelor’s Degree Programme in Languages and Literatures for Intercultural Communication aims to develop advanced knowledge of two foreign languages, focusing on the four key skills of written and oral production and reception, alongside the study of translation and linguistic and philological analysis. At the same time, the programme fosters a deep understanding of the corresponding foreign literatures, with special attention to intercultural and transcultural phenomena, through the study of literary, historical, and cultural disciplines. Additionally, practical skills in reading, translation, text adaptation, and communication strategies are developed, supported by workshops and the use of multimedia tools, to prepare students for professional applications.

The educational path is organised into thematic areas covering linguistics and translation, literature and culture, language teaching methodology, intercultural communication and translation, and contextual disciplines such as history, international relations, and cultural tourism. Students choose two languages from French, English, Portuguese, Russian, Spanish, and German, with courses spread over three years. The programme also offers considerable flexibility for students to personalise their studies through elective credits and supplementary activities, along with internship opportunities and career guidance.

The curriculum is further enriched by interdisciplinary courses related to media and the arts—such as theatre, cinema, music, and podcasts—that enhance students’ cultural and communicative profiles. The goal is to train graduates capable of effective communication in intercultural contexts, with autonomous learning skills and preparation for further academic or professional pursuits.
