Biomedical Engineering (Taught in English)

The Master’s Degree in Biomedical Engineering at Roma Tre University is an international programme delivered entirely in English, aimed at preparing engineers to address complex health-related challenges through the design and management of medical systems, devices, and services. The course equips students with interdisciplinary expertise in key areas such as clinical engineering, biorobotics, neuroengineering, genomics, nanotechnologies, and rehabilitation technologies. Core subjects in biomedical engineering and life sciences are supported by elective modules and laboratory-based learning. The academic staff includes international lecturers, and all students undertake internships either in university laboratories or external organisations in Italy or abroad, which may form the basis of their final thesis. 

The programme integrates knowledge from industrial and information engineering with life sciences, fostering the ability to design, model, and manage biomedical systems and technologies. Students develop advanced skills in biological systems modelling, signal and data processing, medical device design, and healthcare technology management. Teaching combines theoretical knowledge with practical application, encouraging problem-solving and innovation in both hospital and industrial settings. The final thesis is typically based on experimental or design work and may be developed in partnership with clinical institutions or research organisations. 

Graduates are eligible to register with the Italian professional boards of Industrial and Information Engineers and are prepared for careers in healthcare facilities, medical technology firms, research laboratories, and telemedicine providers. They are trained to collaborate with healthcare professionals in diagnostic and therapeutic contexts and may pursue roles such as clinical engineers, health IT managers, biomedical product designers, and quality and safety coordinators. The programme also provides a solid foundation for further academic study at doctoral level or in second-level master’s programmes.
