Italian Studies

The Master’s Degree in Italian Studies at Roma Tre University provides advanced interdisciplinary training in Italian language, literature, and philology. Students choose among three specialisations: Modern Philology, Literature and Media, or Italian as a Second Language. The course combines traditional literary scholarship with digital tools and cultural analysis, supported by seminars, workshops, and supervised research.

The curriculum includes courses in literary theory, historical linguistics, textual criticism, and media studies, enabling students to understand Italian texts and language in both historical and contemporary contexts. A high level of proficiency in a second European language is required (minimum B2), supporting engagement with international scholarship and multilingual education. Students complete a substantial research thesis based on their chosen track.

Graduates are qualified for careers in education, publishing, cultural institutions, media, and international promotion of the Italian language. The degree also provides access to doctoral programmes and advanced specialisations in the humanities. Alumni go on to work in schools, universities, archives, libraries, and language education worldwide.
