Among the indicators that make up the portfolio of comparative rankings for colleges and universities, starting with the 2024 rankings, a new indicator has been implemented to highlight changes in higher education: “Sustainability,” which reflects an institution’s ability to demonstrate a sustainable existence.
The costs incurred by Roma Tre University, which demonstrate the institution’s awareness and consequent commitment to funding projects and initiatives related to environmental and social sustainability, amount to €33.887.750,49 and can be classified into the following macro-areas:
- Environmental management: efficiency in the use of natural resources, reduction of carbon emissions, waste management, use of renewable energy, and sustainability-related services: €672.996,87;
- Community engagement: initiatives promoted by the university to involve students and staff in a sustainable existence: €10.574.460,25, specifically:
- University staff: corporate welfare (benefits, medical expense reimbursements, nursery and school meal reimbursements, summer camp services, meal vouchers);
- Students: merit-based and need-based scholarships, tuition fee reimbursements, self-managed cultural initiatives, resources for students with disabilities and learning disorders, orientation activities, sports activities, doctoral scholarships on sustainability, tutoring services;
- Policies and infrastructure: implementation of internal policies and green infrastructure, such as LEED-certified buildings or other ecological certifications, redevelopment interventions, regulatory compliance upgrades and energy efficiency improvements: €22.640.293,37.
