For more than a decade, Roma Tre University has been providing higher education activities for individuals deprived of their personal freedom, as part of a broader initiative aimed at promoting social integration and a renewed culture of the penal system.
These activities began thanks to the commitment of several faculty members and administrative staff—among whom we recall Prof. Marco Ruotolo and Ms. Roberta Evangelista—who, in the early 2010s, established an initial network of services and institutional relationships.
Starting from 2012, first with a Protocol signed with the Prisoners’ Rights Commissioner of the Lazio Region and later with an Agreement also signed by the Regional Directorate of the Penitentiary Administration, Roma Tre has provided continuous support.
Over time, this commitment has taken on a more structured form, culminating in the current Link identifier #identifier__23519-1Roma Tre Prison University Center (PUP): a system of educational and administrative services designed to ensure the effective exercise of the right to university education for individuals subjected to restrictions on personal freedom.
