Since 2024 Roma Tre University joined the “University Corridors for Refugees” (UNICORE) program, promoted by the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR). The initiative gives to refugee students from Kenya, Mozambique, Niger, Nigeria, South Africa, Tanzania, Uganda, Zambia and Zimbabwe the opportunity to continue their academic path in Italy by enrolling in a Master’s degree program.
In 2025, the project expanded the countries of origin by adding Ethiopia, India, Malawi and Namibia. The University confirmed its participation by joining the seventh edition “UNICORE 7.0”. Within this framework, Roma Tre funded and awarded two scholarships, each worth € 4,000 per academic year and established a partnership with the regional agency for the right to education DiSCo Lazio to provide housing for scholarship recipients in university residences.
In addition, partnerships were developed with Diaconia Valdese and the Diocesan Caritas of Rome which provided comprehensive support to the two scholarship recipients. This included assistance with administrative procedures related to residence permit applications, health insurance coverage and subscriptions to local public transport. Thanks to the agreement with DiSCo Lazio, Roma Tre also guaranteed the scholarship holders free access to university canteens for one meal per day, moreover students were provided with laptops on a free loan basis.
Given the excellent result achieved by the scholarship students, Roma Tre plans to participate in the new edition, “UNICORE 8.0” in 2026, issuing the same number of scholarships. The goal is to further expand partnerships and refine procedures to offer increasingly suitable conditions for academic success and for restoring a good quality of life for individuals coming from extremely difficult experiences.
