The University Library System (SBA) provides qualified resources and services for research and teaching, meeting the information needs of the reference community. The Library System is made up of eight area libraries, which manage the documentary heritage belonging to related disciplines.
Some area libraries are divided into multiple sections, located in various university campuses to be as close as possible to students and staff.
The System provides a vast and constantly updated bibliographic and documentary heritage.
Area libraries are also open to the public.
History
Since its foundation in 1992/1993, University Roma Tre has developed an improvement and upgrading proceeding of its library services through the creation of a Library Commission. An University Library System (SBA) was created in line with the trend of the Italian Higher Education System in order to manage and develop library services for its community.
Mission
The University Library System of Roma Tre offers qualified resources and services in teaching and research by contributing to the cultural development of each individual and of its community.
Its role is based on the principles and values of the “Link identifier #identifier__65349-1University Statute” of the” Link identifier #identifier__26829-2Code of Ethics“, “Link identifier #identifier__69424-3Regulation on the management of the University Library System“.
In order to achieve its mission the University Library System:
- promotes the dissemination of knoweldge;
- facilitates the use of informative resources together with its continuous updating and enhancement;
- provides its users with the necessary skills and information in order to encourage them to an autonomous use of the resources and services ;
- collaborates with other institutions aiming at improving the services and the cultural offer.
The University Library System focuses on the needs of the users, moreover the librarian’s staff are required to behave in a welcoming and attentive way.
The University Library System constantly verifies its strategies taking into account changing occuring within its community and the world of knowledge.
Services
Below are listed the main services provided by the University Library System:
Reading Rooms
Reading areas are conceived as shared areas for study and research, so that users should adopt a correct behavior avoiding disturbing other users and avoiding damaging bibliographic material or university facilities.
Reading and Consult
In the reading rooms and in Roma Tre Libraries you can read and consult bibliographic material you may find on the bookshelves or in the storerooms.
As for the localization of the books, you may consult Link identifier #identifier__69223-4RomaTreDiscovery or the available signposting or asking to the desk staff.
For entry and exit from the halls please respect the signs.
The bookshelves in the reading rooms are bordered by yellow and black stripes on the floor that define the distance, only one user at a time can approach the bookshelves and take the books avoiding gathering. Other users have to wait their turn before getting near the bookshelf.
The books can be consulted in the assigned seat once having sanitized the hands, with the recommendation to use properly face masks; the books shall be placed on the baskets located in each library room after consultation.
As for the request of biblographic material kept in the strorerooms, please refer to the desk staff from 9:00 A.M. to 18:30 P.M.
Loans: service conditions
Service conditions
- Students of Roma Tre; foreign students attending Rome Tre University through International Mobility: maximum 10 documents;
- University staff, University teaching staff, research fellows’, PHD students: maximum 20 documents;
All communications to students (loans receipt, book return receipt, reminder e-mails) will be addressed only to the institutional e-mail.

Length of the library loan
The length of the loan can be checked by consulting Link identifier #identifier__62018-6Roma Tre Discovery:
- 30 days loan (renewal for a maximum of 120 days)
- 10 days loan (renewal for a maximum of 20 days)
- 10 days loan non- renewable (audio-visual material)
- daily loan (expires at library closing time – non-renewable)
- documents to consult on site cannot be taken out
Documents must be returned in the same condition in which they were delivered. A delay in the return would lead to the suspension of all the library services. Failure to return implies a career penalty for students and financial penalties for the staff. In case of loss, damage or theft, the user has to indemnify the lending library as specified.
On line services reserved for institutional users
Institutional users can login through Link identifier #identifier__110107-7Roma Tre Discovery using their institutional credentials.
Authentication allows, for regular users, to book a volume at that time on loan to another user. A book already on loan displays the writing ”0 available” and the expiring date of the loan. When the book becomes available again, an e-mail will be sent to the institutional e-mail address of the user who booked the volume communicating that it is available again (withdrawal within three working days).
Volumes on daily loan are excluded from the booking.
Authentication allows, moreover, to access to its own Library card, which enables to:
- view ongoing and previous loans
- renew loans not yet expired (within 19:30 of the expiring day, if you are not suspended). Daily loan is excluded from renewal. If the book is already ordered, loan cannot be renewed. A loan of 30 days can be renewed for a total of 120 days. A loan of 20 days can be renewed for a total of 20 days (except audio-visual material)

Intra-system loans
All institutional users (students of Roma Tre; foreign students attending Rome Tre University through International Mobility, University teaching staff, University staff, research fellows’ according to the Rules of loan library service in Roma Tre University), may request a book available for loan in other libraries of the University and delivered directly in the library of interest. Audio- visual material is excluded from the service.
Users can take advantage of the service as follows:
- students of Roma Tre and foreign students in International Mobility: can request up to a maximum of 2 books per month for each library;
- University staff, research fellows’ PHD students and students with disabilities: can request up to a maximum of 2 books per week for each library.

In order to be oriented on bibliographic research, to deepen a topic or to get information on library services or on bibliographical collections please contact the information point within each library: librarian’s staff is available to support users.

Link identifier #identifier__163144-10RomaTre Discovery is a search and discovery interface of Roma Tre libraries’ documentary resources and digital collections. It provides a single access point to bibliographic resources either in hard copy or electronic format.
Discovery is a tool that interrogates at once different and separate databases by integrating its contents: bibliographic records, user-license or open-access resources, databases, e-book, e-journal, PhD dissertations, University research repository and publications of Roma Tre–Press.
It would be better to consult the native interface resources if the research on Link identifier #identifier__18741-11RomaTre Discovery doesn’t produce satisfactory results or if you want to use databases’ specific tools such as keywords or thesauruses.

Media Library OnLine
Link identifier #identifier__33199-21Media Library Online is the first digital lending platform for all public and university libraries’. Thanks to MLOL ebook can be loaned (recently published fiction and nonfiction of Italian publishers) to be read on PC or on mobile devices. Roma Tre users’may request up to 5 monthly loans of ebook (60 yearly), included 20 intra-system loans per year.
Since October 2022 are also available on an experimental basis:
- audiobooks in Italian: in download, length of the loan 28 days, 2 loans per week, publishers Emons, E/O, Feltrinelli, Laterza etc., unrestricted number of concurrent users;
- audiobooks in foreign languages: in streaming, length of the loan 30 days, unrestricted number of concurrent users;
- film: in streaming, length of the loan 24 hours, all film genres of Italian and foreign production from years 40 to 2014.
Two million of digital objects open access such as maps, sheet music, e-learning, audio and video resources are also available. They can be downloaded without affecting the number of annual loans.
Many contents are in an accessible format for blind and partially sighted persons certified LIA (Accessible Italian Books)
To enter the platform, please use uniquely the bottom IDEMGARR and your personal account (GOMP/Roma3pass): costs of the loan service are borne by SBA.
