The objectives of the individual module help to define the set of objectives of the entire course.
Study of the design process of the restoration of architecture, from the theoretical and analytical fields to the operational aspects. The application of this process has the objective of designing and defining appropriate interventions in architectural restoration of selected case studies. During the workshop technical insights are provided on the importance of historic buildings and the physical technique applied. The module of quantity survey provides the economic and financial evaluation for a possible feasibility and cost effectiveness. Through case studies, students will be able to check the total cost of similar interventions, moving in the direction of improving the quality of existing space.

The final section addresses the economic evaluation of public and private projects. It focuses on restoration projects and ex ante evaluation. It also examines multi-criteria methods in greater depth. The Module activities include interim presentations of the work in progress and collective review sessions. These activities consolidate the methodological skills acquired and support their application to the projects.
Programma
The Module includes a short section that reviews the foundations of microeconomics and appraisal theory. It focuses on principles, fundamental values, and derived values. The Module then focuses on analytical methods for estimating costs in restoration projects. These include the cost estimate analysis, and the preparation of the overall cost framework. The final section addresses the economic evaluation of public and private projects. The Module requires the preparation of a technical report, complementary to the Restoration Design Studio work, which focuses on cost estimation for the restoration projects and on ex ante evaluation through the practical application of decision-support tools. Learning is evaluated through ongoing reviews and laboratory activities. The grade awarded for the Module contributes to the overall grade for the Laboratory and is based on the following criteria: quality and completeness of the technical report; level of analysis; ability to apply the methodological principles and operational tools presented in the lectures; consistency between the different phases of the technical report (analytical, descriptive, and evaluative); and overall approach. The quality of the students’ work throughout the Module and their participation are also considered. The grade and comments on the technical report are communicated to the examination committee and students on the examination date and discussed during the examination.
