The learnign objective of the course is the acquisition of the knowledge of the optical devices used for the correction of vision defects . Students will develop skills to interpret a prescription, choose and make an optical device, verify the actual functionality and compliance with European and international standards.

A Brief History of the glasses. Ophthalmic frames. Shapes and materials. Naming of parts. Specifications. Basic concepts of geometrical optics of the lenses. Materials, shapes and geometries of ophthalmic lenses. Notes on the aberrations of ophthalmic lenses. Spherical lenses assosimmetriche. Determination of the optical center and power measurement with the spherometer, general corrective concept in visual defects of myopia and hyperopia. The prescription ophthalmic lenses. Using the lensmeter to eye and digital. Detection of the interpupillary distance and videocentratori digital. The place of mechanical technology, processing steps and permitted tolerances for the preparation of a corrective eyewear. Equipment used in a laboratory installation. Reliefs of the optical characteristics of a frame already prepared with the lensmeter. Prismatic effects in ophthalmic lenses. Glasses for near vision. Toric lensesand astigmatism.
