21002002 - BASICS OF BUILDING PHYSICS

The course introduces students to the lighting design issues throughout the learning of actual directives and basic techniques of this discipline. Besides the consideration of light as a measurable physical phenomenon, a further detailed study about the visual perception and colour will follow. Natural and artificial light will be analysed through indoor and outdoor applications, with particular attention to the interaction between light and materials.

Attendance

Type of delivery of the course

The course includes frontal lessons, exercises, and some practical lessons focused on the use of software and laboratory instruments to measure thermal comfort and thermo-physical properties of the building construction elements. Exercises or case studies will be carried out to apply the acquired knowledge.

Attendance

The method of attendance of the teaching: MANDATORY at 75% of the hours

Type of evaluation

Written and oral exams. The final exam consists of a written test and an oral test; the written test, lasting 2h30 ', includes exercises on the topics of the program (heat transmission, acoustics, lighting, thermodynamics), with the aim of verifying students' ability to apply what they have learned to real cases, relating to construction and to buildings. Comments and / or explanations of the procedure adopted may be requested, etc. The written test must be passed in order to take the oral test. The oral test takes place after the written test, and consists of questions on the topics of the program, with the aim of assessing the actual mastery of the concepts, and the ability to connect the various topics and apply them to the case of buildings and architecture. During the course two intermediate tests (exercises) will take place, which, if passed, will exempt students from taking the written test.
