The course is intended as an introductory overview to the study of the English language. It aims to provide students with the basic theoretical knowledge of the different linguistic properties of English, with particular reference to phonetics, phonology, morphology, syntax, semantics, pragmatics and textual analysis.
The course aims at developing the student's analytical skills in the fields of linguistics and textual analysis: at the end of the course, the student will be able i) to describe the different English structures, and ii) to relate them to theoretical linguistics.
Lessons are designed to include classroom activities, which will serve as a tool to favour the acquisition of theoretical contents and practical skills for linguistic analysis.
