Type of delivery of the course

The lectures are only frontal. This module aims at analysing the notion of avant-garde in the 20th century. It features a first part dedicated to surrealism and a second part devoted to Tel Quel through a textual approach to the literary production of the two movements; in particular, it will be analyzed the question of writing (automatic writing; intertextuality); politics (the controversial relationship between Surrealism and Communist Party and its opposition to Fascism; Tel Quel’s Maoism); the poetic of the instant (from Breton to Jacqueline Risset, through Georges Bataille). Lectures features debates with students. Attendance, although not mandatory, is strongly recommended.

Type of evaluation

The examination of the learning ability will take place by means of an oral exam aimed at testing the level of understanding of the notions and the concepts approached during the lectures. The exam features a division of the questions on specific parts of the program (general part, monography, essays, filmography). The duration of the exam may vary from 15 to 30 minutes, although under certain circumstances it may be extended to 40 minutes.
