The aim of this course is to introduce the student to the works of Pléiade’s poets. After giving a brief outline of the historical and cultural panorama of the XVIth century – taking into account also the literary, artistic, philosophical and scientific aspects – the lectures will focus on Ronsard and Du Bellay poems

Programme

a) The contents of the course (as indicated in the three thematic groups in point c) will be made comprehensible for all students, both those attending and not attending, thanks to the continuous alternation between French and Italian;

b) The course will be carefully set out according to the number of credits assigned;

c) The course will address three topics: a first part dedicated to the history of the sixteenth century with a particular focus on the geographical discoveries, the religious wars inside and outside Christianity and French Renaissance; a second part will examine some of the authors of the Pléiade; in the third and final part we will discuss some poetic reading through a close analysis of the text.

Type of delivery of the course

In order to achieve the expected learning outcomes, the teaching methods of frontal lessons will be adopted with frequent use of telematic supports, in such a way as to ensure adequate consistency with the educational objectives. Although strongly recommended, the frequency of teaching is optional.

Type of evaluation

The exam will be oral. The test is aimed at verifying the level of understanding of the concepts and notions acquired during the course. Save for exceptions, the duration of the test is going to be between 15 and 30 minutes.
