THE SEMINAR CONSISTS OF SIX LESSONS:
1) ANIMAL WELFARE IN NATIONAL AND EUROPEAN LAW: ART. 13 TFEU AND L. N. 281/1991
2) ANIMAL LEGAL STATUS IN THE ITALIAN CASE LAW
3) BODIES WHICH ARE AIMED AT FOSTERING ANIMAL WELFARE: THE BODY ENTRUSTED WITH ANIMAL WELFARE ESTABLISHED BY DIRECTIVE 2010/63/EU AND SIMILAR BODIES IN ITALY
4) ANIMALS IN CAGES – PART I (ANIMALS AND FASHION – THE INTENSIVE FARMING SYSTEM)
5) ANIMALS IN CAGES – PART II (ZOOS - THE RITUAL SLAUGHTER)
6) LEGAL BASIS OF THE CONCEPT OF “ANIMAL RIGHTS”

A SELECTION OF READINGS FROM VARIOUS SOURCES, SUCH AS SEVERAL DECISIONS OF THE COURTS (EUROPEAN AND NATIONAL), ARTICLES IN LEGAL PERIODICALS, DOCUMENTS OF THE INSTITUTIONS (EUROPEAN AND NATIONAL), LEGAL ACTS AND SLIDES WILL BE USED.
THE ABOVE-MENTIONED READINGS ARE NOT MANDATORY.
NO TEXT BOOK IS USED.
STUDENTS ARE ENCOURAGED TO MAKE THEIR OWN RESEARCH OF THE MATERIALS.

Type of delivery of the course

LESSONS (AROUND 12 HOURS) WILL BE FOLLOWED BY PUBLIC DISCUSSIONS WITH THE ACTIVE PARTICIPATION OF THE STUDENTS.

Attendance

IN ORDER TO OBTAIN THE 1 CFU, ATTENDANCE IS COMPULSORY. DURING THE COURSE ALL STUDENTS WILL HAVE TO GIVE THEIR CONTRIBUTION TO THE DISCUSSIONS IN CLASS AND BE PART OF A FINAL DISCUSSION.

Type of evaluation

STUDENT'S EVALUATION IS BASED ON A FINAL DISCUSSION ON THE TOPICS DEALT WITH IN CLASS IN ORDER ALSO TO SHARE DOUBTS AND CRITICS. AFTER HAVING ATTENDED THE LECTURES AND AFTER THE FINAL DISCUSSION THE STUDENTS GET THE 'IDONEITA' AND N. 1 'CREDITI FORMATIVI'.
