One of the main aims of this Course of Study is the acquisition of competences in two foreign languages, which is based on the development of the four active and passive written-oral skills, to analyse the study of intercultural and transcultural phenomena through the tools and methodologies of linguistic and philological analysis, as well as the theory and practice of translation.
Russian Language and Translation II is amongst the distinguishing activities of the "Language and translation" area. The aim of the module is to provide students with level B1 language skills and strategies (based on the CEFR). It also aims to develop the ability to ponder on both the cultural context and the language structures (phonetic and morphological), as well as initiating the student to the analysis of the linguistic varieties with an in-depth study of the theoretical, methodological and socio-cultural problems inherent to literary and educational translation.
Students will be able to put into practice the acquired linguistic and communicative skills (active, passive and mixed); rewrite and readjust the text from a transmedia point of view; they will also possess increased communicative skills and intercultural competences.

Programme

The course aims to consolidate the grammatical and lexical knowledge of level A2 and to acquire the linguistic skills of level B1. The skills of comprehension and oral and written production in Russian will be developed, with particular reference to the contexts of use of everyday language. The course will dedicate particular space to the following grammatical contents: case semantics, numerals, impersonal expressions, verb aspect, position and movement verbs, imperative, conditional; and syntactic: relative, final, consecutive clauses, direct and indirect speech.
In parallel, the course provides basic skills in the field of translation from Russian to Italian: elements of history and theory of translation, approach to specific difficulties of translation from Russian, analysis of the text aimed at translation, laboratory translation of essays, poetic, narrative texts.

Type of delivery of the course

The course takes place partly in the classroom, with lectures, workshops, listening, exercises; partly at a distance, with online meetings (Microsoft Teams).

Attendance

Non-attending students must agree on the program with the teacher at the beginning of the course.

Type of evaluation

The content knowledge of the course will be verified orally. It is possible that an ongoing written test will be conducted on part of the program. June/July exams: online exams (Microsoft Teams)
