One of the main aims of this Course of Study is to provide students with advanced knowledge of two foreign literatures related to the two languages of their choice, paying special attention to intercultural and transcultural dynamics. The course also aims at refining their ability to interpret cultural phenomena, using the tools and methodologies of literary, cultural and historical analysis.
English Literature II is among the characterizing activities of the "Foreign Literatures" area. It allows students to have a good knowledge and understanding of Sixteenth, Seventeenth and Eighteenth century English literature, with special attention to intercultural dynamics and the theoretical-methodological debate; it helps students master the tools and methodologies of literary, cultural and historical analysis.
At the end of the module, students will reach a good critical ability in the interpretation of exemplary texts in the original language, as well as the necessary competence for oral rewording, translation, rewriting and adaptation in Italian of the texts themselves. They will also be able to re-elaborate and communicate disciplinary knowledge in a specialized and non-specialized intercultural context.

Programme
This course explores the representation of the female condition in a selection of texts from Shakespeare to Mary Shelley. Through the analysis of plays, novels, essays, and poems, written by male and female authors from the end of the Sixteenth century to the beginning of the Nineteenth, we will explore the ways in which women have been narrated, and their difficult condition, their voices, their predicament represented. We will watch a selection of film adaptations of some of the texts considered and will investigate what happens to a story when it travels across media.Core Documentation

Type of delivery of the course
The course will be taught through a combination of lectures and activities involving group discussion. We will make use of audiovisual material. Attendance is highly recommended. Students are strongly encouraged to read the primary texts before classes start. Class participation will be an important criterion for the final evaluation.Type of evaluation
The exam, in oral form, will take place at the end of the course. During the course, however, students will be temporarily evaluated through learning activities (short presentations or critical-creative response to chosen texts). A causa dell'emergenza Covid 19, il corso è stato erogato quasi tutto a distanza. 4 lezioni si sono tenute in presenza e 4 lezioni sono state cancellate nella prima settimana di emergenza e sostituite da un'attività di gruppo a distanza sul sonetto che è stata valutata ai fini della verifica. Pertanto ho suddiviso le restanti 22 lezioni in 6 moduli, uno per ciascun testo primario, in modo da meglio ordinare i materiali per lo studio. Alla fine di ciascun modulo è prevista un'attività che è facoltativa ma il cui svolgimento (nei tempi previsti dal corso) attesta l'acquisizione delle competenze relative a quel modulo che pertanto non saranno oggetto di valutazione all'esame orale; si possono svolgere fino a 5 attività su 6 che sono valutate in trentesimi e che fanno media. Per lo svolgimento delle attività nei tempi previsti dal corso viene assegnato un bonus sul punteggio del voto finale: 1 attività 1 punto; 2 attività 1 punto e 1/2; 3 attività 2 punti; 4 attività 2 punti e 1/2; 5 attività 3 puntiAttendance

AVVISO IMPORTANTE PER GLI ESAMI DEGLI STUDENTI CON DSA O DISABILITA' E' importante segnalare la propria situazione contattando la prof.ssa Mara Frascarelli (responsabile per DSA e disabilità) almeno 2 settimane prima dell'esame per consentire di creare le condizioni migliori per la verifica. Comunicarlo in sede di esame renderà impossibile creare tali condizioni.
