One of the main aims of this Course of Study is the acquisition of competences in two foreign languages, which is based on the development of the four active and passive written-oral skills, to analyse the study of intercultural and transcultural phenomena through the tools and methodologies of linguistic and philological analysis, as well as the theory and practice of translation.
German Language and Translation III is amongst the distinguishing activities of the "Language and translation" area. The aim of the module is to provide students with level B2 and C1 (based on the CEFR) and to enhance their language strategies. It also aims at developing their ability to move in the linguistic context, linked to the theory and practice of translation of different textual genres, also from a transmedia point of view, and to the cultural history of exemplary periods of linguistic history.
Students will be able to put into practice the acquired linguistic and communicative skills (active, passive and mixed); delve deeper in translation problems related to different textual genres, also in a transmedia perspective; interpret reality in a multilingual and multicultural perspective thanks to a strengthened intercultural competence; they will also possess consolidated communicative and argumentative skills.
Pre-requisite: German Language and Translation II.

Programme

Text linguistics and translation

The module introduces textual linguistics as a way of analysing textual processes, making it a prerequisite for a methodologically founded approach to translation. The semantics of prototypes, the cognitive and pragmatic dimension of the linguistic act will be at the centre of our reflection on the translation act, as will the link between textual typology, types of thematic developments and translation strategies. Theoretical lessons will alternate with translation exercises into Italian in which different textual varieties will be dealt with. Beyond the textual dimension, the Diskurslinguistik inspired by M. Foucault will be addressed

Type of delivery of the course

The classes of the German native-speaker teachers form an integral part of the course and begin at the start of the academic year.

Type of evaluation

At the end of the class, students must pass an oral theoreical test and a written translation test.
