The laboratory teaching is structured by alternating theoretical contributions, in the form of lessons / lectures with preparatory exercises exercise the main project according to the following schedule:

Tutorial: Beauty is the splendor of truth
structural and spatial typological analysis of paradigmatic architecture of the twentieth century author which manifests the coherence between aesthetics of form, design principles and program. (The authors are: Labrouste, Schinkel, Berlage, Wagner, Perret, Le Corbusier, Mies van der Rohe, Terragni, Libera, Torroja, Kahn, Dieste, Candela, Nervi, Morandi, Perugini-Fiorentino, Lewerentz, Zumthor, Vacchini, Campo Baeza, Conzett, Keretz.)
The exercise involves the processing to be carried out in groups (3/4 students) chose the building of charts and a scale model 1/100 or 1/50 of a significant part of this:

The exam project: For a structural rationalism:
The Cultural Center of the Alessandrino District
Elaboration of the architectural design: graphics on the urban scale (1: 1000/1: 500) and the architectural scale (1: 100 / 1:50) in addition to the creation of a contextualized model at scale 1: 200 with insights 1 : 50.
The work can be done individually or in groups of maximum 2-3 students.

Type of delivery of the course

The course develops a cognitive experience through the integration between theoretical contributions and laboratory activity (practical-application).

Attendance

Attendance is required for at least 75% of the lessons

Type of evaluation

The module requires midterm audit closely related to design seminars activity. The main test coincides with the final exam, in which students present their project, complete with all its parts, according to the indications provided by the Laboratory teachers, and argue about the main issues of theorethical communications.

Programme

The studio concerns the design of complex, environmentally sustainable, energy saving oriented building, from the point of view of building technical installations; and materials and building techniques.

The purpose of the laboratory is to design an office building in the Ostiense area of Rome.
The laboratory is divided in four thematic seminars:

1_volume and the public space (3 weeks)
2_structural system (4 weeks)
3_internal distribution (3 weeks)
4_building envelope (3 weeks)

In the final part of the course the students gather the results of the four seminars and elaborate the final panels.

Type of delivery of the course

THE STUDIO IS DIVIDED IN FOUR PARTS (CONTEXT, STRUCTURE, FUNCTIONS, BUILDING SKIN AND PASSIVE BUILDING).

Attendance

AT THE END OF EACH WORKSHOP, EACH STUDENT IS ASKED TO INTEGRATE IN HIS PROJECT THE ELEMENTS HE EXAMINATED. THE FINAL PROJECT WILL INTEGRATE ALL COMPONENTS: CONTEXT, STRUCTURES, FUNCTIONS, SKIN AND INSTALLATIONS.

Type of evaluation

ALL THE ROUTE WILL BE ASSESSED AND THEREFORE THE DELIVERIES CARRIED OUT AND THE CAPACITY ACQUIRED TO MANAGE THE DEGREES OF COMPLEXITY OF AN ARCHITECTURAL ORGANISM.

Programme

Aim of this project is to instruct students in completing a brief in its initial design phase (progetto definitivo)
The course will provide a series of theoretical lessons which will evolve in parallel with the architectural design.
Students will be challenged into the design of a medium-sized architectural project situated in an urban site with strong historical and enviromental characteristics. Designing in such a context will be a central aspect in the students work, both formally and in their choice of typology
All technical and energy saving aspects, as well as structural solutions will be explored schematically.
The designs will be drawn at a !:500 scale for the site plan, 1:100 for the architectural design, 1:50 for a detailed drawing as well as a 1.200 model.
Groups are admitted with a maximum number of 3 students each.
The final exam (assessment) will be in the form of an open critique of the students final design and a series of questions on the work covered throughout the course.

Type of delivery of the course

The Laboratory includes: 1. Frontal lectures on topics related to the design exercise subject of the Laboratory, concerning the topics of project and context, typological aspects and design and construction techniques. b. Exercises. Students are required, one day a week, the public illustration with the support of images in .ppt format of the results of the project research, with consequent criticism of the teacher and possible debate. The exhibition will clarify the conceptual design of the project, the relationships with the context and the typological solutions adopted.

Type of evaluation

The verification of the expected learning outcomes takes place through the critical analysis of the required papers and through an oral exam having as its subject the topics covered during the Laboratory.
