The development of a project on an urban scale (masterplan) with particular attention to the themes of the resilience to the climate change and to the relationship between physical and social form. Among the topics discussed: use of space; temporality of movement of the inhabitants; open and built spaces; design of soil and infrastructure; places of social life, of living and working. In addition, they analyze the models of urban development and demographic, land use, traffic, food sustainability, social interactions and urban spaces, the economy and the metabolism of the city.

Programme

The teaching will consist of a systematic exposition of legislation and case law on land planning. The main aspects of the legal regulations on landscape planning, other land protection instruments and building regulations will also be outlined.

Type of delivery of the course

The teaching will consist of: 32 hours of lectures (which will focus on the most relevant theoretical aspects of the subject); 8 hours of practical exercises (aimed at discussing judicial decisions and other materials); 6 hours of workshop (aimed at setting up an analysis in legal perspective of a topic related to the urban project); 4 hours of intermediate written tests.

Type of evaluation

Two intermediate written tests will be conducted (duration 2 hours). Each written test will consist of two open questions on parts of the programme that were illustrated during the lectures. There will also be a final oral test, which will focus on the topics that were not covered in the written tests, as well as on the paper related to the urban project. The assessment for the ‘Law’ module will feed into the overall assessment of the Urban Design course.
