The course addresses exemplary and/or controversial themes and cases of the international debate on the restoration of monuments and the conservation of cultural heritage.
Criteria, traditions, methods and techniques linked to specific geographical areas guide and consolidate different ways of operating in other latitudes, sometimes in analogy, sometimes in open contrast with the principles of the Italian restoration discipline.
The reading of the case studies is accompanied by a continuous comparison with international restoration documents and papers, which evolve in parallel with the expansion and progress of the conceptions on the nature and specificity of "cultural heritage", differentiated both by the contexts and geographical areas in which they arise, and by the history, traditions and cultures that have accompanied them over the centuries.
The study of the diversity, as well as the cultural singularities - in terms of restoration - in other nations contributes to enriching the knowledge of the subject and broadens the horizons of reference of those who will be called to intervene, overcoming barriers and ideological prejudices, with greater awareness and responsibility on the existing buildings.
