The course aims to prepare students on the theoretical, methodological, managerial and quantitative aspects concerning the effective application of Quality Management.
The course provides and develops:
• knowledge and methodologies related to the Total Quality Management approach;
• the basic quantitative tools for managing information for the purposes of monitoring and improving processes;
• the ability to set and implement the quality strategy in different organizational contexts.
The course includes the integration of managerial elements with quantitative aspects, introducing students to statistical techniques for quality control with reference to the analysis of both the quality of services and the production of goods.

The course is organized into two complementary modules: managerial and statistical. It contributes to increase the knowledge of Total Quality Management fields and to provide tools and methodology for assuming managerial decision making in private and public organizations. Moreover, it illustrates the statistical methodologies to achieve a quality analysis. Some elements of descriptive statistics will be included (histogram, Pareto diagram, box plot). In order to use the following variables and attributes control charts, indicate the process capacity indicators and analyze the external quality.

The course is designed by developing the different aspects related to the TQM both theoretically and operationally.

Type of delivery of the course

The course allows students to learn, methods and tools of quality management. It provides theoretical insights and analysis of case studies. The course awards 9 credits awarded in 60 hours, of which 40 hours will be dedicated to the managerial module and 20 to the statistical module. To promote integrated and interdisciplinary learning, the course includes both case studies and project work with the aim of: - to enable students to face managerial problems, identifying solutions; - to use statistical and managerial tools for decision making; - to deliver concrete experience useful for experimenting with the application of methods and tools to solve problems of real context. The project is organized annually with private or public bodies interested in collaborating

Type of evaluation

The exam is open questions written test. Students must answer three questions: 2 for assessing the managerial module (20 points) 1 for assessing the statistical module (10 points) Students will pass the exam if the grade is 18/30 or over. In order to understand how to apply TQM, the course proposes an interdisciplinary project work. That activity is reserved to the attended students and will be launched 1st April 2019. The project evaluation from 0 to 3 points (zero=fail; 3=excellent) The points will be added to the final exam grade till the exam of February 2020 The deadline project submission is 24th of May Due to the Covid Virus emergency, the exam will be an oral examination until necessary
