The aim of this course is to develop a critical interpretation of the transformations, between 19th and 20th century, of the labor organization, social conflicts, industrial relations, social security and welfare policies, with particular reference to the Italian case.

Programme

The course will cover the historical evolution of labor and industrial relations, seen through the study of collective bargaining, both in terms of overall structure and of specification in the main economic sectors. It will be added to an analysis of company bargaining examined in its fundamental characteristics.

Type of delivery of the course

The didactive activity consists in face-to-face lectures: 3 two-hour-long weekly lessons. In addition, in the second part of the course, we have planned seminars with experts and managers, in order to examine in depth specific topics and stimulate the students by applying theoretical knowledge acquired to practical experiences. The seminars’ programme will be notified during the course. Lessons can be attended in person or remotely (Microsoft Teams), but they will be not recorded.

Attendance

Attendance is not compulsory, though it is strongly suggested.

Type of evaluation

Oral exam of about 30 minutes, on at least 3 topics of the programme. Attending students can take the exam by passing 2 written tests (in the middle and at the end of the course) based on the lessons’ contents, course listed books, as well as the topics discussed in the seminars.
