The course has three main objectives: 1) explore the micro and macroeconomics of the labour market; 2) analyze the recent structural evolution of the labour market; 3) assess the working of labour policies both at the national and European level.
The macroeconomic perspective implies the study of the determinants of employment and unemployment levels and their relationship with the level of inflation. The microeconomic perspective implies the analysis of individual agents behavior with respect to demand and supply of labour, labour cost, various labour contracts and collective agreements.
Finally, rhe role of labour policies will be considered, with reference both to European Employment Strategy and to the constraints imposed by the European Economic Policy.

Discrimination in the labour market
Applied analysis of the labour market.
The first part of the course focuses on the theoretical analysis of the labour market and on the implications of policy. The decision-making processes that determine the behaviour of individuals and firms in the labour market are analysed, in terms of labour supply and demand and, therefore, of equilibrium in a competitive market and in an imperfectly competitive market.
The topic of education choices and training of human capital is introduced.
The imperfections of the labour market are explored in depth, with particular attention to the problem of unemployment and wage differentials.
Finally, the topic of discrimination in the labour market is analysed.
The second part of the course explores some topics with empirical analyses, also through the use of software used in econometrics, and through the reading and analysis of scientific articles.
