The course is an introduction to the key problems of the philosophy of science. Students will become familiar with issues concerning the nature of scientific explanation, laws of nature, the relationship between hypothesis and evidence, and the truth-content of scientific theories in light of radical scientific changes. Besides making reference to textbooks, these general topics will be presented also on the basis a direct reading of some classics of 20th century philosophy of science, thereby providing knowledge of the central themes and problems of science and the philosophy of science from both a theoretical and an historical point of view.

Type of delivery of the course
The course will be based on traditional lectures given by the member of staff responsible for it. In addition, it is expected that discussion seminars will be held (approximately 1/2 hours every 6 hours of lectures) in order to facilitate learning. The course will also be available in online formType of evaluation
