At the end of this course students will acquire:
- knowledge of main issues concerning aesthetics and the relationships between philosophy and the arts (literature, visual arts, performing arts, architecture, film);
- knowledge of some important texts of the history of aesthetics, and of the critical debate on these texts;
- mastery of aesthetic terminology and of the argumentative methods in the field of aesthetics and art criticism;
- ability of focusing theoretical issues, analyzing information, formulating arguments in the fields of aesthetics, theory of perception, art theories;
- ability to contextualize in historical-philosophical perspective aesthetic debates;
- ability to expose issues concerning aesthetics in oral and written form.

Programme
After an introduction about the birth of the Aesthetics and the concept of aesthetical experience, the course will analyze the concept of kantian sublime and its twentieth century discussions.Core Documentation

Type of delivery of the course
In the first part of the course students will be given an introduction to vocabulary and aesthetics problems. In particular we will follow the historical path of the terms: Aesthetics, Imitation, Art, Beauty, Sublime. In the second part we will read and comment the texts by Kant, Deleuze and Lyotard.Type of evaluation
Oral exam with at least a question on the history of aesthetics and a question on each author read.
