The subject aims at outlining the main issues related to the theoretical-politics dimension of communication. The primary topics concern the transformation of the concepts of culture, democracy and multiculturalism, the relationship between rationality and identity, between values and interests, the perspectives on interculturality, politics and identity conflicts in global society.

Programme

Freedom of expression, the search for the substantial truth of the facts, the Constitution and deontological norms. These are some of the principles and rules of the journalist's profession at the heart of the Journalism course. In particular, we want to provide students with a general understanding of how a professional must behave when writing an article: how to search for news, how to verify it, how to prepare an article for a newspaper and how to make a headline in a newspaper and on a web newspaper.
The course also aims to acquire a wealth of knowledge in line with the changes that have occurred in the field of journalism in the last 30 years following the digital revolution born with the Internet and the new platforms on the web that make up the world of online information.
In addition, the course aims to provide the basic notions to prepare an interview and know how to carry out that fundamental work of verification and cross-checking of news, the only real tool to identify "fake news", manipulated, misleading and often false information that circulates on the Net and often ends up influencing public opinion. Among the in-depth topics are news agencies, the role of photographs and videos in online information, journalism and television, algorithms and news selection, the differences between traditional media and new media.

Core Documentation

The textbook is: "Manuale di giornalismo", written by Alessandro Barbano (Editori Laterza). To the text I add handouts and slides that will be uploaded on the digital platforms of the university at the end of each lesson and that constitute non-secondary topics of the course, to be studied as if they were an integral part of the basic text.
