The aim of the course is to provide the students with the basic notions of textual linguistics. The course will introduce the students to the main typologies of texts (narrative, argumentative, descriptive, informative), as well as to the main features of a written or oral text.
At the end of the course the student will be able to produce written texts of different types, according to the theoretical and practical notions acquired during the course.
The course includes a practical part in which students can show their newly acquired abilities.

It begins with an analysis of the fundamentals of communication. It explores the concept of communication skills and introduces the main tools for communicating appropriately in different contexts.
The central module focuses on language use and the relationship between linguistic norms and variation. A significant part of the course is devoted to Italian vocabulary and strategies for ensuring clarity and lexical precision.
The course then addresses text structure, presenting its seven principles and focusing on efficiency, effectiveness, appropriateness, and coherence and cohesion. Writing is approached from three perspectives: as a technique, a process, and a product.
Finally, the programme focuses on academic writing. The fundamental text types are distinguished, and the types of text used at university are analysed, including academic emails, CVs, dissertations, scientific articles and abstracts. The degree thesis receives in-depth coverage, including its formal structure and the stages of writing, such as choosing a topic, creating an outline and index. Documented and argued writing are also covered.
The course includes numerous practical exercises at each stage.
