Programme

The course aims to provide students with competencies in film directing through the study of practices and the analysis of directing styles across different phases in the history of cinema, before focusing more specifically on contemporary audiovisual productions that engage more directly with digital media and the web.
In the first part of the course, students will acquire knowledge of film grammar, with particular attention to the main directing techniques (shot composition, principal camera movements, rules of visual continuity, etc.). This phase will include numerous case-study analyses aimed at identifying and examining different directing styles throughout the history of cinema.
In the second part of the course, a range of audiovisual practices emerging from the hybridization of cinema and contemporary digital media will be considered. This section will address both practices of remediation and the “diegetization” of digital devices in contemporary cinema, as well as specific audiovisual products designed for the web and for wide circulation and consumption across different media devices, with a particular focus on desktop cinema.

The learning assessment takes place through a written exam. There are no intermediate tests.
