20710577 - Comunicazione persuasiva LM - mod A

The course aims to provide students with the basic notions of persuasive communication combining the theoretical tools of the discipline that traditionally has dealt with the persuasive uses of language, rhetoric, with the empirical results achieved in the context of the modern cognitive sciences. Specifically, the cognitive foundations of the persuasive uses of language are analyzed with reference to a particular tool of communication: storytelling.

Through the discussion of case studies, such as scientific communication, marketing, advertising and political communication, the course aims to provide students with a general understanding of the fundamental cognitive mechanisms underlying storytelling.

Individual written paper. Given the online teaching and the consequent possibility of following the lessons on a deferred basis (on the Moodle page of the course), there is no difference between attending and non-attending students both in relation to the textbooks to be studied and in relation to the examination method. The paper must be sent 15 days before the date on which you decide to take the exam. The essay is an individual written paper that addresses one of the topics covered during the lessons. In drafting the paper, it is necessary to make the two textbooks interact (for those who take the 6-cfu exam), or the two textbooks and the two articles of your choice (for those who take the 12-cfu exam). Of course, it is also possible to refer to the in-depth materials made available on Moodle. Students who take the 12 credits exam must prepare a paper of at least 8 max 10 pages, excluding the final bibliography (i.e. the bibliography is not calculated to achieve the minimum number of pages required, but must be inserted at the end of the paper). Students taking the 6 credits exam must prepare a 5-page essay, excluding the final bibliography (i.e. the bibliography is not calculated to achieve the minimum number of pages required, but must still be inserted at the end of the paper). Topics to choose from: Cognitive constraints underlying the dissemination of ideas Cultural transmission and religious beliefs Cultural transmission of urban legends Emotions and dissemination of ideas Models of persuasion: from Aristotle's rhetoric to viral ideas Persuasion and manipulation Narrative communication and persuasion The persuasive power of narratives in: - Advertising - Scientific communication - Political communication To record the grade of the exam (which coincides with the grade of the thesis) it is necessary to book on GOMP at the call and appear on Teams (when the exams will take place electronically) or in the classroom (when the exams will return to take place in person) . The Teams link will be sent the day before the exam session. In the event of an extension of the health emergency from COVID-19, all the provisions governing the methods of carrying out teaching activities and student evaluation will be implemented. In particular, the following methods will be applied: electronic examinations for verbalization of the vote.
