The course aims to provide students with an in-depth analysis of the study of semantics. The study will concentrate on the category of verb in particular. Specific properties of verbs in combination with other elements to form sentences will be discussed. Part of the course will be devoted to the study of words and lexical structure.
At the end of the course the students will be able to analyze verbs, nouns and sentences on the basis of all the properties on which the course focuses.

The applied section, with the help of the tools of information technology in the computer lab, will illustrate the research methodologies in use for linguistic data, in particular for the extraction of words, of combinations of words, and for their different typologies; it will also be devoted to a survey of frequency data which can be drawn from the existing corpora presented in the lab.
The applied section will be delivered by Dr. Piunno, expert in Language Technologies and Corpus Linguistics.
